MALA BEADS

In Buddhist practice, mala beads, or prayer beads, are used for counting mantras or prayers. They can be made from gemstones, wood or seeds and full-length malas traditionally have 108 or 111 beads. Wrist malas traditionally have 21 beads, however this depends on the size of the beads. All Tibetan Buddhist Malas have a ‘Guru Bead’ in the shape of a Stupa at the top of the mala (or wrist mala).

Malas can also be worn as a beautiful necklace or bracelet and as a reminder to be mindful.

Jalu Jems malas are handmade in Nepal and India, either handpicked by us or made to order, and most have sliding knots so that the size and tension can be adjusted.
