LOKTA PAPER PRODUCTS

Lokta Paper is a handmade, artisan paper indigenous to Nepal. It is made from the inner bark of high elevation evergreen Daphne shrubs, known as Lokta bushes. The Daphne shrub is one of the world's few under-utilized species, and regenerates quickly, so is an environmentally sustainable resource. Lokta-based handmade paper products offer economic opportunities and sustainability for poor communities, particularly Nepalese women in rural villages. Lokta paper is extremely durable and so has been used for sacred religious texts and official government records for 100’s of years. Once lokta paper is produced it can last for some millenniums (2000–3500 years)!!!!!
