This beautiful long white offering scarf, or Khata, has the eight Buddhist auspicious symbols as well as prayers woven into the fabric. In Tibetan Buddhism, it is traditional to present an offering scarf or khata as a sign of respectful greeting and also as an offering to lamas after an empowerment or teaching. In Tibetan culture, Khata are also used at many ceremonial occasions, including births, weddings, funerals, graduations, and arrival or departure of guests.
The prayer woven into the scarf says:
"May the day be well, May the night be well, May the mid hours bring happiness too, May the day and night be always well, By the blessing of the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, and all enlightened beings, May all be auspicious!"
