These beautiful long offering scarves or Khata, have the eight Buddhist auspicious symbols as well as mantras woven into the fabric. The 5 colours - blue, white, yellow, green and red - represent the five Buddha families, the 5 wisdoms and the five elements.
In Tibetan Buddhism, it is traditional to present an offering scarf or khata as a sign of respectful greeting and also as an offering to lamas after an empowerment or teaching. In Tibetan culture, Khata are also used at many ceremonial occasions, including births, weddings, funerals, graduations, and arrival or departure of guests.
